Winning Best Restoration Project

What the client had to say..

Following a flood, Jake was hired to redecorate our four bedroom house. Given the trauma we had gone through with the flood, Jake was very courteous and went out of his way to accommodate us and work around the other trades people.

The process from start to finish was consultative. We advised Jake of the colours we wanted in each room, and despite us changing out minds on numerous occasions, nothing was too much trouble.

Jake arrived when he said he would, was always tidy and completed the work on time and to a very high standard. His attention to detail was second-to-none. We challenged him to create a mountain scene using various shades of pink in my daughter’s room and the results were simply outstanding - perfect lines and an incredibly steady hand.

Jake was a delight to have around, we felt very comfortable with him and trusted him implicitly.

He is a passionate and creative painter and decorator that clearly takes pride in his work. He is continually striving to improve his skills and spoke about the courses he was attending and showed the work he had done.

Ive recommended Jake to a number of friends and we plan to get him back again to do some more work for us.

If anyone deserves this award, it is Jake.

Jake Neal wins top decorating prize

A Cambridge painter and decorator has been announced as the winner of the Restoration Project award at the national Dulux Select Decorator Awards.

Jake Neal of JN Painting & Decorating was crowned the winner of the category in recognition of his expert restoration of a flood damaged four-bedroomed house - from colour advice through to free hand artwork on a bedroom.

He was revealed as the winner at the Dulux Select Decorator Awards 2019 on Tuesday 26th November at the National Painting and Decorating Show.

Winners of all the categories, as well as an overall Grand Winner, were recognised at a new-look gala dinner championing decorating professionals from around the UK.

The Dulux Select Decorator scheme enrols professional decorators who undergo rigorous assessments to become members - they must have at least three years’ experience in the trade and have run their own business for a minimum of 12 months.

Following pre-dinner drinks, a three-course meal and entertainment, the judges took to the stage to announce the winners.

Jake said: “I am so proud to be named as winner of the Restoration Project award. The house was so badly damaged by the floods that it took a team of tradespeople to come in and work around the clock to get the family back in and comfortable. It’s rewarding to be recognised for a project that was literally a lifeline for a family.”

Jake was also a Shortlisted Finalist in the Interior Project over £2,500 category.

Vickie Mather, Dulux Select Decorator Lead said: “It was fantastic to recognise Jake for this project that obviously involved a lot of teams working together to get the job done. He was able to advise the clients on colour as well as all the practical work that needed to be done on the home.

“Being a professional decorator can often be quite isolating as we know many work alone or as part of a small team, so to see Jake get involved so actively in with other tradespeople is brilliant. He embodies why being a Dulux Select Decorator has such benefits - bringing those in the trade together so they can learn and support one another.

“The awards ceremony was a great opportunity to reflect on the hard work and dedication all our Dulux Select Decorators give the painting and decorating trade - as well as recognising those that go above and beyond in providing exceptional workmanship for their clients.”
